Kitten Care: The First Few Days

Mushu and Jeremy have a great bond. Mushu Kitten, a blue mitted lynx was introduced to the Danu Family at 8 weeks old. As a young kitten, she often fell asleep on Jeremy’s shoulder while he was reading at night before bed. As Mushu matured, she became a very affectionate snuggler. She loved to lay on Jeremy’s tummy and offer nose touches and small licks on his nose. Ragdolls are the BEST!

Kitten Care: The First Few Days

Caring for a new kitten during their first days in a new home involves several important steps to ensure their health and comfort. Start by creating a safe and cozy environment. Set up a comfortable sleeping area with a soft bed or blanket and provide appropriate litter boxes in quiet, accessible locations. Kitten-proof your home by removing any potential hazards or toxic substances. If you have other pets in the home, including other cats, being prepared with a plan to introduce them will ensure a happy and effective transition for all members of the family, humans and pets.

Nutrition is critical for a growing kitten. You will be sent home with a few days supply. Our cats are free fed a 1/2 and 1/2 mix of Iams Proactive Health Healthy Kitten Dry Cat Food and Solid Gold Lamb, Brown Rice and Pearled Barley all dry food. Ensure fresh water is always available. Schedule a vet visit within 72 hours of adoption to check your kitten's health and create a vaccination plan.

Aside from physical care, socialization is key for a well-adjusted kitten. Spend quality time bonding through gentle play sessions, cuddling, and interactive toys. Encourage positive behavior by providing scratching posts, toys, and designated play areas. Establish a consistent routine for feeding, grooming, and playtime to help your kitten feel secure and confident in their new surroundings. Be patient and understanding as your kitten adapts to their new home, and enjoy the process of watching them grow into a happy and healthy adult cat.
